day 1 in the new office!

Ahhh! Today is my first day in the CA office and I'm super excited! Unbelievably, I woke up at 5:15am to get ready for my 6:30am shuttle. Granted, I did go to sleep at 9:45pm like a gigantic loser, but it felt nice to be up early before the sunrise and in the office by 7:30am. It's not even noon and I've been tremendously productive - the desk is all set up, e-mail has been gone through, and my calendar is set. I feel so settled. I've missed this place - there's something magical about Mountain View. I love seeing all the signs for clubs and activities and neat things like that. Hopefully I can make some new friends. I also did my laundry this morning at work, which was awesome. Love free laundry! I don't think I'll even miss not having a washer/dryer in my apartment building.

The sun is shining here, it's an absolutely beautiful day and everyone's so friendly. Seriously, two guys have smiled at me today and asked me how I'm doing. People don't do that in New York! I'm still getting used to it. I'm notoriously shy and always demurely look down whenever I pass anyone in the hall. Sometimes I think it's a remnant from a past life or something, but I'm working to become more outgoing. I'm looking forward to getting to know my team and bonding with them. We're going to see Eat, Pray, Love tomorrow and then indoor skydiving on Wednesday. I'm insanely excited. Life seems to be picking up and I'm so glad. I really do think I'm going to like this new adult life that I've created for myself.

I still want to get shitfaced on a regular basis, though... haha. I need to start working on *that* portion of my life. I did almost get high on Saturday, but alas, I was thwarted. Oh, well - this weekend is a Wedding Weekend, so I'm sure I'll get my fill of drunken craziness then. =)

i love when i'm reminded how dangerous nostalgia is.

You know how sometimes you have these really fond memories of a person, place or thing, and then you return to that place and realize that those memories are hopelessly skewed? Yup, that's me right now - in regards to both SF and TG.

As far as San Francisco goes, it is *much* better than I remember it, thank the Lord. I am still happy and regret-free about my decision to move here. I love living alone - it's allowed me to embrace my inner nudist and my inner hermit at the same time. I don't feel the stress I felt when I lived here last and all my horrible memories of the things I hated have yet to become realities. I'm loving it so far.

Then there's TG. I don't know if there's just so much water under the bridge that things have changed. I mean, two years is a long time - people do grow and change and circumstances are different - but I feel like he's a colossal asshole. I'm not going to say I'm shocked and I know 99% of you reading this are all "umm, I TOLD YOU THAT 9 MILLION TIMES, BITCH!" but there's nothing like seeing it for yourself. We hung out yesterday - just lunch and hanging out at his apartment - and I was so unimpressed the whole fucking time. I mean, first of all - he was flaky like whoa and I had no idea what our plans were. He texted in the morning claiming an extreme hangover situation and that we'd hang out later. Then, I had to badger him to figure out if we were going to do something. When I got there, he seemed distracted - playing with his phone, his computer, reading a newspaper and looking at the TV in the restaurant. I asked him a question - he clearly wasn't listening to me. It was frustrating. I didn't even *want* to have sex with him and so I'm glad nothing happened. It was actually a relief not to feel that desire.

I think moving here was probably the best way for me to get over this kid. Because when you're 3000 miles away, it's easy to idolize a guy and remember all the good. When you're 1 mile away, you can see the bullshit up close and deal with it on a daily basis and remember why you didn't want to date the kid in the first place. I mean, when I lived here, I initially had no desire to date him. Oddly enough, I didn't start getting attached until right before I moved and during my time in NYC. Now that we're in the same place at the same time, I'm less all about it and more ready to move onto the next man. Finally, we have some fucking progress!

I've decided to handle this the way I've handled him at various intervals in the past - with polite disinterest. I have no desire to ask him to hang out or to do things with him. I'll go about my merry way - should he want to contact me, he can and I'll always be nice. But, I'm done initiating anything on my part. Maybe I can finally close this chapter of my life. Hallelujah!

the social network.

I need to start working on expanding my social network here in SF. I'm trying to figure out what exactly I want this new life to look like - I just know that I can't let myself get too comfortable and complacent with falling back into old patterns. I want to make some new friends and get out of my comfort zone and really branch out. I also need to start dating like whoa, but I go back and forth about whether I want to start now or wait for work to die down. I also want to make sure I go about this the right way. I never understand why I don't hold the men I date to the same standards that I hold my friends. I know SF is the land of the flake culture, but I'm tired of people bailing on plans day of. Friend, boyfriend or otherwise. So this time, I'm looking for a legitimately nice guy who is not going to dick me around. I'm tired of bullshit.

This weekend, I have a bunch of plans, which is nice - I hate the first weekend you move somewhere and you don't have anything to do. Instead, I went to dinner last night with MB, Blondie, and S. It was a really nice dinner - great food and good conversation. I'm trying to let bygones be bygones, and it's going well so far. Today, I'm supposed to hang out with dickhead (TG) but we'll see if that happens. Apparently, he had a rough night last night ::rolls eyes:: He can kiss my ass, so whatever. I may be too busy unpacking to deal with his shit. ANYWAY. Tomorrow is MB/Tara time - we're going to do the whole Emmy thing and perhaps a late lunch at my fave new place, Nopalito. Next week, I have movie plans with the HR peeps at work, as well as LG1's birthday. Yay! I have a social life!

So far, things are going well here. Trying to be an adult is a daunting experience - I've always been kind of childish and I think this is going to force me to grow up a bit. Learning to live alone and to *be* alone. In New York, I felt the need to surround myself with people all the time, but here in SF, I feel a little bit more comfortable with spending time alone in the park or eating meals by myself.

Speaking of social networks, I desperately need to start calling my friends - haven't talked to College BFF or Freshman Year Best Friend or SW in a long time. I need to get on that before I lose all my old friends!

Anyway, off to unpack and watch my DVR. =)

new city, new apartment, new life.

So my parents have finally left and I'm all alone in the apartment. I figure I have today, tomorrow and Sunday to get my shit together - unpack what's left of my boxes, dispose of my trash, etc. I kind of wish I hadn't made plans so I could get some more stuff done, but it'll be so nice to do something social and get out of the apartment. Tonight, it's dinner at Nopalito with MB and friends, then Saturday plans as yet to be determined with TG. Sunday, I think I'll continue my tradition of spending the day to myself, reading and doing work and preparing for the week.

I'm really feeling comfortable here so far, which is nice. I got so worried that I'd hate SF or think I made a mistake once I got here, but honestly, it just feels so right. Even all the messed up shit - the worrying about having to spend time with people I don't want to spend time with, the TG drama - I still feel secure about this. Of course rebuilding will be a process, as it always is, but I think I'm up to the challenge of it all.

More on the TG visit. He told me he'd come over in the morning, but of course he flaked on me because he had made some plans with people and overslept so he didn't have time. I was pretty pissed off because it's so like him to not put any kind of priority on seeing me. Then, the way he always is, he was all - "hey, are you around, I could come by now" later in the afternoon. I was tired of being alone with my parents so I said yes and he came over. He looks good - he's lost more weight (which sucks, since I seem to be putting weight ON. Can't wait to start working out again on Monday) and he was dressed halfway decently, so that was good. It was weird with my parents there, not like we could really "talk" but it was still cool to have him around. He helped out with stuff around the house and we had some of the light, flirty banter we always have. He told my parents that he was sure I'd have more stuff for him to help put together over the weekend, which I found odd since I wonder if he would even help me if I asked. He's so cagey - I can't get a read on him. He wants to do something on Saturday and I still have the Brita pitcher I bought him, so I guess he has to come over for that. We'll see how it goes - I'm not trying to agonize over it, but I would like to see what the new relationship is going to be between us.

Other than that, I'm excited for work on Monday, even though I'm woefully behind. Anyways, back to lounging on my brand new couches! =)

quick little update.

Hi!!! I'm not dead - I swear! Moving is just fucking ridiculous as hell, but I feel the urge to do a quick update to let all you beautiful readers know how I'm doing.

  1. My apartment is bomb ass. It's really big and it's ALL mine - no sharing! I've got it pretty much all set up - kitchen table, sofa and loveseat with coffee table and big HDTV in the den, bedroom all pretty with matching bedspread and curtains.
  2. I love SF. Seriously, I feel so comfortable here it's sick.
  3. My apartment building is kind of loud sometimes. The walls are sort of thin, which worries me because (a) I dislike hearing other people's random (sex) noises and (b) I was really looking forward to being as loud as I wanted to be, during sex or otherwise. Oh, well. So far it hasn't been too bad, but I fear for the future.
  4. My parents met TG. The world didn't explode. He's being the same lovable jerkwad he always is. We're hanging out Saturday. Eek.
  5. So many people have come out of the woodwork in SF - it's amazing. I have plans to keep me busy for the next week! I'm excited that I'm not going to be a friendless hermit.
  6. I'm too tired to really miss people, so I know I'm in for a rude awakening once I get two nights of good sleep. Then I'll start to freak out and will probably cry thinking of the NY MCMers, my work loverlies, the fam, the Law School ladies and the roomies.
  7. My parents are a combination of awesome and annoying, but coming out mostly on the awesome side. Although my mother did give my phone number to the cable guy, which irked me to no end. I almost got into a screaming match about it with her.
  8. I love cable tv and DVR.
  9. Also, tell me how 80 degrees is considered a fucking heatwave. San Francisco has no fucking idea what is up. These fuckers need to go to the East Coast to see some real heat. Heatwave, my ass.
Okay, I want to drink wine and lay in bed and think of my new life - haha, I'm a dummy. Goodnight! =)

officially the laziest person on earth.

I think the creature I most resemble would be a sloth. I literally have done nothing constructive in the past few days to further this moving thing. I'm supposed to be on a place on Monday morning at 10:30am and I have shipped not one box to my new apartment. Fuck My Life indeed. Tonight, I'm going to a show with the interns at my company and will probably get home drunk after 11pm. I am one giant epic fail.

Then tomorrow night is my party, which is going to be a shit show for sure because anytime I decide to get dressed up like a hooker and drink and dance, it's always a shit show. Unfortch I can't bring anyone back to my crib unless they want to get it on on an air mattress (which I've actually done before, so maybe I could get lucky...) and I also have my mom coming to pick me up on Saturday morning. I guess I'm not going to be getting sleep anytime soon. Oh well.

the last days are always the hardest.

Man, oh man, I hate moving because it makes me super nostalgic. My coworkers were making fun of me today because I stopped in the middle of a random convo and had a wistful, sentimental look on my face. I'm really, really, really going to miss the NYC coworkers. I love my girls there and we have so much fun and we've grown so close. I remember when I first started working there, I had little to no friends. I barely knew anyone. Over time, though, I got so close to all the HR Associates. I watched one get married in one of the most beautiful ceremonies I've ever seen. I lived with another one that I consider to be one of the best friends and roommates I've ever had. I spend nearly every working moment with two of them - lunches and dinners and margarita nights. Then there's my team - my wonderfully, fabulous team. I love them all in their own special way, including my manager, who is hands down the most competent, invested, caring boss I've ever had. I know I won't lose any of this, but it won't be there on a day-to-day basis.

Then there's the high school crowd. I know they aren't going anywhere because we've been friends for 12+ years and those lovelies are my life. We bitch and moan and complain about each other because we spend so much time together and know each other so well. I will never, ever stop loving any of them, even though sometimes I want to smack them all. They are my support system. They always get irked when I talk about my other "best friends." Honestly, though, they've transcended the realm of friendship and are now part of my family.

I'm so nervous about SF, but I know that there are so many positives out there. First of all, my team in Cali is amazing and I love those girls as well. I know we're going to click like *that* when I get there (I mostly know this because I spend weeks at a time in Cali with them, so I think we're good). Then, there's the office itself - full of young, vibrant people with similar interests. I've got Freshman Year Best Friend to hang out with and MB and the rest of the ADP crew. Depending on what the fuck goes on with TG, I suppose I could have him as a friend as well. At the very least, I know the boy would be there for me if shit ever really hit the fan. So, yeah, I know it's going to be okay, but that doesn't make it any less hard to leave. It really sucks to be in love with two places at one time. Or maybe I'm just lucky to have two homes to go to.

ack, omg okay!

I'm in a weird mood today. Trying to get a ton of crap done, but super restless. I cannot believe it's my last week in the New York office! I've already got my fill of social activities - happy hour tomorrow, margaritas on Wednesday, Fuerza Bruta on Thursday, going away party on Friday, and Saturday is full of ridiculous events to go to. INSANITY! I'm never this social butterfly-like. Help me!

Anyhow, I'm trying my hardest to get up on my two new blog projects and I would love it if you all would make the transition over with me, which I'm hoping will coincide with my move. The first blog is going to be totally out and open - putting my real name out there and not giving a fuck, but that's only because it's about alcohol! I want to start mixing drinks and learning more about the art of liquor since we all know I love it so much. So I'm trying to start a new tumblr with recipes, reviews and other awesomeness. So if you're into liquor, I'll post the link once I've got it up and running and you can share my adoration for all things alcoholic.

Second is my revamp of this here blog. I've decided to keep it pretty anonymous. No names or anything like that - still have my super fly nicknames, but I think it's time to move off of Blogger (blasphemy, I know!) and onto Wordpress and a new domain. I finally caved and bought a domain and got a twitter account and I'm working on moving over there. I'm going to start over and archive this stuff, so I can make a fresh new beginning with my move to SF (can you tell that I'm super into fresh new beginnings?). One addition - I currently host a Tumblr, where I keep all my favorite videos, links, etc. I'm going to start posting all that stuff to the new blog so I don't have to have 9 million places to stick things. Plus I think it'll make it a more fun, interactive experience where I can share the personal and the funny articles that make me laugh along with my intense intropsection in one simple spot. Yay!

So as I try to move, I'm also working on that. I'll keep you guys posted!

Happy Monday!

holy *insert catchphrase here*, batman!

Wow, just had an amazingly shittastic dream (let's not talk about how long I pondered how to spell 'shittastic')! Basically, I was in some sort of hotel and my parents were in the next room. Then my teeth started getting loose and falling out - pretty much every tooth on the top of my mouth. Except, oddly enough, some of them had replacement teeth underneath but then there were huge gaping holes. I was terrified, so I ran in to talk to the parental units and they just gave me the number for a dentist and told me to call right away and he would set me up with "a new oral hygiene regimen." It was crazy because no one else seemed to be as freaked out as I was and I was terrified about what was happening to me - did I not brush/floss enough? Would I be ugly? It was crazy.

Of course, because I love all things New Age, I looked up what the dream could symbolize and supposedly dreaming of your teeth falling out means you're afraid of some change going on in your life or you feel powerless about it. I don't think I've ever feared change in my life. Rather, I've run toward it with open arms or grabbed it by the hair and forced it to embrace me. I'm always gunning for change. Sometimes I do stupid shit just to switch things up and make life difficult for myself. But, I do think I'm starting to get nervous about the change I'm about to go through. Now that all of my furniture is gone - I am left with only a lamp - and the countdown is t minus 7 days, I am starting to freak out about moving to SF. It's a subtle freakout, though. I'm not really doubting my decision at all, but I'm still nervous about it's implication on my life.

I'm the kind of girl that always has two sets of emotions - the one in my head and the one in my gut. The head is always racing around - thinking of the negatives and the worries and all the potential disasters looming overhead. The gut either affirms or denies these fears. In the case of moving to SF, my head is a fucking mess, but in my gut I know it's going to be good for me. I just hate when I can't have clarity in both places. That's the ideal sweet spot, when I can get my head to comply with what my gut is telling me. I've been relying on my female intuition or whatever you want to call it for a long time and it's been pretty good to me. It chose my college and my job, and it's never been wrong. I can just feel when something is going to be good or bad. Now, don't get me wrong, sometimes I ignore that shit and dive in anyway (see: failed friendships and relationships), but in general when I follow the feeling, it's always good.

So basically, this week I want to enjoy myself with my friends and have fun. I'm supposed to be planning a party for Friday night and I have a bunch of other activities on the docket. Last week in NYC!

Saturday, August 14, 2010

making the most of my last week in new york.

I don't know how, but somehow last night turned into quite a bit of a shit show. The morning started out fine - humming along, doing my work. I finally started to get out of the bitchy mood I'd been in because of my period, but around 3pm I got restless and girl roomie was having a bad day, so we decided to start drinking around 4. Two bottles of wine and a rum and coke later, I was totally blitzed at work, which was kind of awkward since roommie's boss kept poking in to find the six of us girls giggling and drinking in the office. Then I had to go back downstairs and try to act like a normal human being in front of my own boss. Luckily, we were able to make a speedy getaway to grab more drinks around the corner.

A few White Russians later, I was being my normal ridiculous self. My favorite quote of the night - "I love penis, but I hate men. Seriously." I really need to stop drinking. Also espoused my love of objectifying and groping men. I swear, I think there may be something wrong with me. The roomies and I left to head to Penn Station to pick up roomie's fiancee, so of course I decided to get a Long Island while we waited. After that, typical late night New York City dinner and a bottle of prosecco. It was a fabulous night, laughing and joking around with my roommates. I'm seriously going to miss them - from the moment I moved into this apartment, I've loved every single minute of it. They've become some of my closest friends and I was practically in tears yesterday thinking about what it'll be like to not have them around. Although, I am gunning for boy roomie and fiancee to move to SF after the wedding! It's on their list of potential places to live, so we shall see.

TG pinged me yesterday and I was wasted McWasted so I was being ridiculous and weird. Whatevs. He pinged me again this morning to tell me that I should ask him for help moving and that he's there for me if I need the assistance. I'm skeptical, but I need to figure my shit out because my mother knows about him and will most definitely want to meet him. I'm not really sure how I feel about that, but I guess we'll cross that bridge once we come to it. I've had my online dating profile up for a bit, but I need some new pictures. I hate selling myself on those websites. I think I want to do some more focus on making friends and having an active social life, instead of just jumping into a relationship. We shall see.

Anyway, I bought some boxes to help with moving so I should get started on that. Only one more full week before I leave!

praise be!

I bought my tickets. Finally. It was so expensive that I don't even want to talk about it - two round trip tickets (for my parents) and one one-way for me. Luckily, I had two credits on Virgin America so my ticket was okay, but the money for the parents - insane. I hope my parents like getting cards for Christmas because I've spent wayyy too much money on them this year. I can't afford to support them and myself. I know that sounds callous and rude, but seriously - they depleted my savings and now I have to pay for their assistance to come move me?! It's a pain in the ass. I have NO MONEY. NO MONEY. Do you hear me? I work for one of the best companies in the country and have a decent salary and not a lot of living expenses and yet I'm counting pennies like a goddamned pauper. Fuck that. //end rant

Okay, back to sanity now. We're seriously going stir-crazy here in the office. This morning we've been shrieking, yelling, singing Real McCoy's "Another Night" and generally being crazy. I think we've cracked and it isn't even crunch time yet. We still have another month before the shit hits the fan. I'm hoping that the vacation I'm taking to make the move will be good. I mean, parents will be there for four days and then I'll get Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to myself to frolic around and get used to being lonely for a little bit. Hopefully, I can catch up on sleep and find a good cafe or bar to become a regular at. I've always wanted to be a regular somewhere hip and chic, instead of Chipotle, lol (what? it's addictive).

The sad thing is, between moving, getting my money right, and my job, I don't think I'll feel like a complete human being until Jan 2011. That's such a long time from now.

foul mood, as per usual.

The period strikes again! I swear I don't know how I've become such a cunty bitch whenever I'm menstruating, but my hormones are out of fucking control. Hence, my language. I just feel so overwhelmingly stressed - there really is no other way to describe it. My job is getting b-a-n-a-n-a-s and I know that I have to take the week off to do the whole moving thing, so I really have the next week and two days to get that shit together and I feel like I'm being engulfed with work. Plus, the whole social crunch - I mean, I need to see *everyone* and do *everything* and be *everywhere* as much as I can. It's rough. Trying to go out tonight was a colossal shit show and now I'm sitting here paying the price, as I attempt to do work and laundry. ARG.

Things that are new with me & my ridiculous life:

  • Attempting to craft my San Francisco online dating profile. I've decided that no matter how stupid it may be to throw myself into dating the second I arrive, but I think we can all agree that I've been single for far too long.
  • I still have not bought my tickets to California. Do you realize that I'm supposed to move in about 11 days. What the fuck is wrong with me?!
  • I'm still having money anxieties even though I just came into a windfall of cash. It just seems like there's never enough. I'm definitely going to be one of those people who just can't get enough money ever because I'm terrified of being poor or struggling or wondering how I'm going to pay my bills. I *need* to get better about money. The sad thing is, it's not like I have a shopping addiction or anything, I just think I'm not smart about how I spend my cash and I have the wrong mindset about money.
  • All things TG - I had been really good about ignoring him and not reading anything on his twitter, which I think he knows, so he IMs me now when he has news. Like how he's not moving to New York (did you hear that? that's the sound of my heart breaking). Also he has a secret blog (omglol, just like me!). Also he started contacting me again, which worries me. It's just annoying. Luckily, I've been having lots of talks with my extremely patient and wise cubemate who tells me how she's dealing with a similar situation and I really want to start emulating her. Love her. Will miss her and all the rest of the NYC crew.
Okay, I need to continue with work and laundry and life. I'll try to write something somewhat captivating and interesting soon. =)

Monday, August 9, 2010

i'm procrastinating and that's the only reason i'm writing.

These next two weeks are going to suck balls. I'm getting ready to move and still haven't bought my tickets to SF. It's also unclear if I have to buy my parents' tickets as well, but I'm guessing yes. I have no idea what to do about my finances, although I did just come into some money that will certainly help. My job is nutso and I have a million tasks to finish, but instead I'm sitting here trying to keep from doing laundry and cleaning my empty room.

Yes, my room is practically empty. The parental units came on Sunday and they moved all of my stuff except for my TV and a dresser. I'm sleeping on a mattress on the floor and I've come to realize how few possessions I actually have. I thought I had a ton of shit, but it's really just a lot of fucking clothes. It's kind of sad, though. I'm starting to feel it - the beginning pieces of leaving. I would write about how it feels, but I'm so fucking tired that everything is all jumbled.

Also, I'm obsessed with The Real L Word, on Showtime. It's a reality show about lesbians living in L.A. and I'm totally hooked. I don't know why. I'm firmly in the 'dick only' category. Sometimes I wish I was more sexually adventurous in that way, but I've never even kissed a girl or felt the desire. I can look at women and view them as attractive, but just never wanted to go there. But this show is amazing. It's awesome to see lesbians going through the same shit I go through with the men I date. Because honestly, at the end of the day, relationships and relationships and they're hard and people are shitty and things happen. I love the drama and I cannot get enough.

I'm also in need of some True Blood and Mad Men since I was too tired to watch it last night.

Anyway, more shit on the move tomorrow.

trying to start a new blog is no fun.

Especially when you're sick and have a fuck-ton of work to do for your day job and all you want to do is play with your new phone. I took a 'sick day' yesterday and just tooled around my apartment. Surprisingly I didn't nap or anything, but I did watch an obscene amount of Pretty Little Liars, as well as Jersey Shore and Real Housewives of DC. My taste in television is kind of abysmal, but whatever - I'm awesome regardless =)

The other night, Jammerz and I hosted a nice speakeasy crawl of NYC. It was amazing - we hit up 4 out of the 6 speakeasy-style bars on our list and I reaffirmed my love of alcohol in the process. I think I finally found a way to drink like a lady, which b-t-dubs is my new favorite drunken affirmation. I love running around drunk shrieking "I am a lady!" whenever anyone says anything vulgar or mean to me. Because clearly, if there was a national vote on ladylike behavior, I'd be at the top of the list...

But ANYWAY. Speakeasy was awesome - the first one we went to I had a bartender's choice, which basically means I told the lady bartender what I like and was in the mood for and she created a concoction for me. I think it was called a Brooklynite - Jamaican Rum, honey, and lime juice. It was amazing and the first of two honey drinks for me (I think I've found a new 'mixer'). I can't really remember what else I drank, but I was certainly inspired by all of the interesting drink combos. I've decided that I want to have a bar in my new apartment with all kinds of unconventional liquors and spirits.

This has led me to decide that I want to try and start *two* new blogs, instead of just the one that I'm barely working on. A few months back, I bought thisgirldrinks.com intending to make that my new home, but of course I got sidetrack and it never happened. So I think I want to boot that up and use it to chronicle my drinking and attempts at bartending using the aforementioned unconventional liquors and spirits. Yay! And then, of course, the reboot of this blog, with more photos, links, and (hopefully) scandalous stories of my new life in SF. Exciting!

i can't focus, i'm so excited!

My brand new Droid Incredible has arrived and is currently waiting with my doorman. I'm so excited I can barely sit still, but I have to because I'm in a frickin' meeting. Growl. Literally, the second this meeting is over I am RUNNING back to my apartment to go get it, set it up, and activate it. So much for being crazy productive today. Maybe another time?

I'm also sick, which blows, but I'm powering through it. I don't know what the hell is wrong with me but I fell asleep last night only to wake up periodically hacking and coughing and gagging while my eyes watered like nobody's business. Seriously tears streaming down my face. I'd have to grab a handful of tissues every 90 minutes to dry myself off. Insanity.

Tonight is speakeasy night, which honestly I don't have high hopes for, but I guess we'll see. I think we got in a little over our heads and invited too many people, but oh well - if it sucks I legit don't care because I'm so tired (and cranky, apparently...)

Anyhow, time for me to go back to pretending to pay attention during this meeting =)

fun weekend in VA!

This weekend I headed down to Charlottesville, VA to hang out with my fabulously wonderful sorority sisters, M and B (not to be confused with MB - hehe). B goes to school down there, so M and I made the trip out to reunite and drink tons of wine. Seriously, let me say that I've never had as much wine as I consumed on Saturday, which is nuts because I'm a borderline alcoholic. I guess I just tend to stick to hard liquor since those bottles tend to last longer, but I'm thinking I may want to try drinking more wine.

We visited Thomas Jefferson's house, Monticello, which was amazing and huge and beautiful. The weather was also perfect for the visit - not too warm with a nice, light breeze. Museums usually turn me into a giant 'see you next tuesday' because I get hot and cranky and tired of standing, but I was able to handle this trip like a lady. I'm so grown up! After that, southern buffet at an old-school tavern (cornbread was to die for) and then the wineries! The wine was awesome (I didn't buy anything - hi, I'm impoverished) and the views were so pretty. Seriously, Charlottesville is gorgeous! I also had an unfortunate incident with a box of a half-dozen peach cider donuts. Unfortunate in that I ate 5 of them, whoops! I maintain that I needed the carbs to deal with the multiple glasses/bottles/tastings of wine that our group had.

Sunday, B and I went to the King Family vineyard for a polo match, but sadly it was canceled due to rain. Instead we took our sandwiches and ordered a glass of wine and sat around watching the little kids play and looking at the excellent views. After that, B drove me to the Richmond airport and I headed back to NYC. It was a really nice weekend. I'm starting to get sad thinking about how much more difficult it will be to visit all my friends from the West Coast. I guess it'll take just a little more money and planning, which aren't exactly my strong suits, but I'll try to make it happen.

In non-weekend news, I've decided that I want to start incorporating pictures and more "me" stuff into my blog. I think we can agree this post would've been a million times more interesting with some pictures (too bad I broke my camera). So, I've bought a new domain and in the course of the next few weeks, I'll be transferring stuff over and will *perhaps* even include the name on my birth certificate, so I'm not a faceless character with an alias. Yay! Get excited!
